FAQs
Everything you need to know about Groneed LED grow lights – from certification to payback, installation to grants.
Q1: Are your lights UL certified for the Canadian market?
A: Yes. All Groneed grow lights are UL 8800 certified, which is the recognized standard for horticultural lighting equipment in both Canada and the United States. This certification ensures electrical safety, photobiological safety (IEC 62471), and compliance with local building codes. We also provide CSA and FCC certifications upon request.
Q2: Do you provide bilingual (English & French) documentation?
A: Absolutely. We understand that Quebec has specific language requirements. All Groneed products come with English and French instructions, nameplates, and packaging. We can also provide French versions of spec sheets and installation guides upon request.
Q3:How much can I save by switching from HPS to Groneed LED?
A: Typical energy savings range from 40% to 50% compared to 1000W HPS fixtures. For a 50,000 sq ft greenhouse, this translates to $30,000–$45,000 CAD in annual electricity savings. Actual savings depend on your local electricity rates and operating hours.
Q4: What is the typical payback period?
A: Payback is typically 12 to 24 months, depending on:
- Your current HPS energy consumption
- Local electricity rates
- Available government grants
With the Agricultural Clean Technology Program covering up to 30–50% of eligible costs in some cases, payback can be as short as 12 months. We provide a free payback calculator – contact us for a personalized estimate.
Q5:What’s included in the 5-year warranty?
A: Our warranty covers:
- Lumen maintenance – ≥90% of initial PPF at 5 years
- Driver and electronics – full replacement coverage
- LED boards – against manufacturing defects
We do not pro-rate – if a fixture fails within the warranty period, we replace it. Our Toronto-based spare parts warehouse ensures fast replacement with minimal downtime.
Q6:What spectrum do your lights use?
A: Our standard spectrum is full spectrum with enhanced 660nm deep red, which promotes flowering and fruiting. We also offer:
- Balanced blue (450nm) for vegetative growth
- Optional far-red (730nm) for shade avoidance and flowering control
- Custom spectra for specific crops (contact us for details)
All spectra are backed by third-party testing and real-world grow trials.
Q7:Do you provide PPFD maps and IES files?
A: Yes. Every Groneed product comes with:
- PPFD distribution maps at multiple mounting heights
- IES files for use with lighting design software (Dialux, AGi32)
- Spectral graphs showing exact wavelengths
These are available for download on each product page or upon request.
Q8:Are your lights dimmable? Can they integrate with climate control systems?
A: All Groneed fixtures come with 0-10V dimming as standard. They are compatible with major climate control systems including:
- Priva
- Argus
- HortiMax
- Modbus RTU / TCP (optional)
- Lutron (optional)
This allows you to automate light intensity based on time of day, sunlight availability, or crop stage.
Q9:Can I install your lights on my existing HPS infrastructure?
A: Yes. We offer a plug-and-play retrofit kit that is compatible with E39 mogul sockets. Simply screw our LED fixture into your existing HPS socket – no rewiring required. One worker can retrofit 20–30 fixtures per hour, minimizing labor costs and downtime.
Q10:How durable are your lights in greenhouse environments?
A: Our fixtures are built to withstand harsh greenhouse conditions:
- IP66 rating – fully dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets
- 1,000-hour salt spray test – resistant to corrosion
- Sulfur-resistant coating – withstands fumigation
- Fanless passive cooling – no moving parts to fail
They operate reliably in temperatures from -30°C to 40°C.
